Thin Raft is the project of Nottingham based guitarist, Charlie Ulyatt.
Self ‘taught’, and only then in later years, my solo guitarist work aims to create sounds comprising of melody and drone along with just a little discord and distortion.
Initially influenced by Dylan Carlson of Earth, the sound is hopefully gradually evolving to be my own.
Currently using a Telecaster and a small Vox amp and a handful of pedals.
Currently in the process of recording my first album .. hoping to release in August 2015.
In the meantime, I will be doing a number of gigs throughout the year (see gigs page) and, if anyone would like me to do a short set or around half an hour, please contact me.
An old picture of the village in Lincolnshire where I was born
“The Thin Raft sound is actually akin to listening to Thurston Moore’s Sonic Youth guitar parts, that have been stripped away from drums, bass and vocals, then played back at high volume. ”
“It’s clear, that when it comes to this type of drone rock/minimalist noise experimentalism, Thin Raft is in a league of his own”
